How the Multi-Button Counter Works

The Multi-Button Counter gives each labeled button its own tally, so tapping a button adds to that button's count only. Buttons sit in a list or grid, and each one shows its current total.

  1. Add buttons: Create 1 button per item type and give each a clear label, such as Red, Blue or Green.
  2. Tap a button to count: Each tap adds 1 to the selected button. A long press opens options to subtract or rename.
  3. Use color coding: Give each button a different color to speed up recognition during fast counting.
  4. Check the totals: Each button shows its own count, and the header shows the sum of all buttons.

Multi-Button Counter Formula

The Multi-Button Counter grand total equals the sum of every button's count.

Grand total = B₁ + B₂ + … + Bₙ
B₁ … Bₙ
Count stored on each button
n
Number of buttons

Example: Three buttons hold Red = 14, Blue = 9 and Green = 21. The grand total is 14 + 9 + 21 = 44.

About the Multi-Button Counter

A Multi-Button Counter is a set of labeled tally buttons on one screen, each keeping its own count. The tool replaces a row of mechanical clickers with one phone or tablet.

Buttons differ from zones: a button is a fixed, labeled control with a visible number, while a zone is a region of a single surface. Buttons work best with 2 to 12 categories that need clear names.

Ways to Use the Multi-Button Counter

There are 5 main uses of the Multi-Button Counter, including product counts by color and visitor counts by type.

  • Product counts by color: Shop staff count stock by color or size on separate buttons.
  • Visitor counts by type: Event staff split guests into Adults, Children and Seniors.
  • Classroom tallies: Teachers record answers A, B, C and D during a show-of-hands quiz.
  • Quality checks: Inspectors log Scratch, Dent and Misprint defects on 3 buttons.
  • Bird counts: Birdwatchers give each common species its own button.
