How the Museum Visitor Counter Works

Count guests as they enter the museum. Track exits too if you need to know how many people are still inside. Keep each day or time slot separate.

  1. Pick the gallery: Select the room or exhibition you are counting.
  2. Tap per visitor: Tap as each visitor enters the gallery.
  3. Group by type: Use buttons for adults, children, school groups and members where needed.
  4. Read hourly totals: The tool groups counts by hour to show busy periods.

Museum Visitor Counter Formula

The number inside equals entries minus exits. Add the entries for each time slot to find the day total.

Gallery reach (%) = Gallery visitors ÷ Museum visitors × 100

Example: The museum admits 1,200 visitors in a day, and the special exhibition counts 780. Gallery reach = 780 ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 65%.

About the Museum Visitor Counter

A guest tally helps a museum track visits and see when people come through the door.

A visit count and a count of people still inside answer different questions. Make clear which one you report. Use the same start and end times when you compare days.

Ways to Use the Museum Visitor Counter

Use guest counts to plan staff, check event turnout and spot busy times. Here are five examples.

  • Exhibition reporting: Curators report visitor numbers for each exhibition.
  • Staff scheduling: Managers place gallery staff at peak hours.
  • Signage testing: Teams compare gallery reach before and after new signs.
  • Grant reporting: Museums report audience numbers to funders.
  • Conservation limits: Staff cap visitors in rooms with fragile objects.
