How the Sensor Reliability Tester Works

Repeat the same touch test and count which attempts pass or fail. Use a clear pass rule and keep the setup the same for each run.

  1. Set the test count: Choose the number of deliberate touches, such as 100.
  2. Touch on cue: The tool shows a cue, and you touch the sensor once per cue.
  3. Compare counts: The tool matches each cue with a sensor activation inside a time window.
  4. Read the results: See detected, missed and extra activations.

Sensor Reliability Tester Formula

Divide passes by all attempts, then multiply by 100 to get the pass rate. Count missed touches and false triggers as separate faults.

Detection (%) = Detected ÷ Expected × 100 | Precision (%) = Detected ÷ (Detected + Extra) × 100
Expected
Deliberate touches made
Detected
Touches the sensor reported
Extra
Activations with no matching touch

Example: A 200-touch test gives 196 detected, 4 missed and 3 extra. Detection = 98%. Precision = 196 ÷ 199 = 98.5%.

About the Sensor Reliability Tester

A sensor reliability test checks how often a sensor gives the expected result across many tries.

A high pass rate in one setup does not prove the sensor works in all conditions. Repeat the test with the heat, noise or moisture it may face in use. Record the sample size with each rate.

Ways to Use the Sensor Reliability Tester

Use repeat tests to compare sensors, check changes and find faults. Here are five common uses.

  • Product acceptance: Teams require 99% detection before release.
  • Threshold comparison: Engineers test 2 threshold settings side by side.
  • Glove testing: Testers measure detection with different gloves.
  • Cover testing: Makers compare detection through glass, wood and acrylic.
  • Maintenance checks: Staff test installed sensors every month.
