How the Threshold Alert Counter Works
The Threshold Alert Counter plays a sound, vibrates and changes color when the total reaches a number you set. You set 1 or more thresholds, and each one triggers its own alert.
- Set thresholds: Enter alert points, such as 50, 80 and 100.
- Count as normal: Tap to add counts. The counter checks the total against every threshold after each tap.
- Get the alert: The screen flashes and the device vibrates for 200 ms when a threshold is reached.
- Continue or stop: Keep counting toward the next threshold, or reset after the final alert.
Threshold Alert Counter Formula
The Threshold Alert Counter fires an alert when the previous total was below the threshold and the new total is equal to or above the threshold.
- Previous
- Total before the tap
- New
- Total after the tap
- Threshold
- Alert value set by the user
Example: A threshold sits at 75 with a step of 5. A tap moves the total from 70 to 75. 70 < 75 and 75 ≥ 75, so the alert fires once.
Threshold Alert Counter Reference Table
The Threshold Alert Counter conversion table shows common alert points as a share of a capacity limit. The sample limit is 200 people.
| Alert level | Share of limit | Count at alert | Suggested action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early notice | 50% | 100 | Open a second entrance |
| Warning | 75% | 150 | Slow entry |
| High | 90% | 180 | Prepare to stop entry |
| Full | 100% | 200 | Stop entry |
| Over limit | 110% | 220 | Ask people to leave |
About the Threshold Alert Counter
A Threshold Alert Counter is a tally counter that signals when the total crosses a preset value. The alert removes the need to watch the number on every tap.
Threshold alerts are common in safety work. Fire codes set maximum room capacities, and a counter with alerts at 75%, 90% and 100% gives door staff time to act before the limit.
Ways to Use the Threshold Alert Counter
The Threshold Alert Counter has 5 key uses, including capacity limits and batch completion.
- Capacity limits: Door staff get an alert at 90% and 100% of room capacity.
- Batch completion: Workers get a signal when a box holds 48 items.
- Interval training: Athletes get an alert every 20 reps to switch exercise.
- Medication counts: Pharmacy staff get an alert at 30 tablets per pack.
- Survey quotas: Interviewers get an alert when 100 responses are collected.
