How the Counter Checkpoint Tool Works
The Counter Checkpoint Tool saves the current total as a named checkpoint without stopping the count, so you keep intermediate totals along the way. Each checkpoint stores the total, the time and the change since the previous checkpoint.
- Count as normal: Tap to build the running total.
- Save a checkpoint: Press Checkpoint to store the total, such as Halftime or 10:00.
- Keep counting: The running total continues without a reset.
- Compare checkpoints: The list shows each checkpoint and the count added between checkpoints.
Counter Checkpoint Tool Formula
The Counter Checkpoint Tool split equals the total at a checkpoint minus the total at the previous checkpoint.
- Total(k)
- Running total saved at checkpoint k
- Total(0)
- Starting total, usually 0
Example: Checkpoints at 45, 110 and 160 give splits of 45, 65 and 50. The second block was the busiest.
Counter Checkpoint Tool Reference Table
The Counter Checkpoint Tool conversion table turns hourly checkpoints from a 4-hour event into splits and rates.
| Checkpoint | Running total | Split | Rate per minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18:00 | 0 | — | — |
| 19:00 | 140 | 140 | 2.3 |
| 20:00 | 410 | 270 | 4.5 |
| 21:00 | 590 | 180 | 3.0 |
| 22:00 | 650 | 60 | 1.0 |
About the Counter Checkpoint Tool
A Counter Checkpoint Tool is a tally feature that records intermediate totals while the count continues. Runners know the same idea as split times.
Checkpoints show how a total built up over time. A final count of 650 says nothing about the peak, while hourly checkpoints show that 270 of those arrivals came in one hour.
Ways to Use the Counter Checkpoint Tool
The Counter Checkpoint Tool has 5 key uses, including hourly event counts and match halves.
- Hourly event counts: Venues save a checkpoint every hour to find peak entry times.
- Match halves: Scorers save totals at halftime and full time.
- Production splits: Supervisors save counts at each break.
- Survey blocks: Traffic counters save totals every 15 minutes.
- Long counts: Users save progress before handing the device to a colleague.
