How the Timestamped Touch Logger Works

The Timestamped Touch Logger records the exact date and time of each touch, down to the millisecond, and stores every entry in a list you can export. Each row pairs the running count with its clock time.

  1. Tap to log: Each tap adds a row with the count number and the time, such as 14:32:07.418.
  2. Choose the time format: Switch between 24-hour clock, 12-hour clock and ISO 8601 format.
  3. Read gaps: Each row shows the time since the previous entry.
  4. Export the log: Download the list as a CSV file for spreadsheets.

Timestamped Touch Logger Formula

The Timestamped Touch Logger gap equals the timestamp of an entry minus the timestamp of the entry before it. The mean rate equals the number of gaps divided by the total time span.

Gap(n) = Time(n) − Time(n−1) | Rate = (N − 1) ÷ (Time(N) − Time(1))
Time(n)
Clock time of entry n
N
Number of entries

Example: Entries at 09:00:00, 09:04:30 and 09:12:00 give gaps of 4 min 30 s and 7 min 30 s. Rate = 2 ÷ 12 min = 0.17 per minute, or 10 per hour.

About the Timestamped Touch Logger

A Timestamped Touch Logger is a counter that saves the clock time of every event, not only the total. The log answers when each event happened.

Timestamps allow analysis after the fact, such as finding peak hours or measuring gaps. ISO 8601 is the international standard for writing dates and times, and the format sorts correctly as plain text.

Ways to Use the Timestamped Touch Logger

There are 5 main uses of the Timestamped Touch Logger, including incident logs and contraction timing.

  • Incident logs: Staff log the exact time of each incident during a shift.
  • Contraction timing: Expectant parents log the start of each contraction.
  • Field observations: Researchers log the time of each animal sighting.
  • Customer arrivals: Shops log arrival times to find peak hours.
  • Medication times: Carers log each dose given.
