How the Packing Counter Works

The Packing Counter tracks items packed into the current box and the number of boxes completed, and it signals when a box reaches its target quantity.

  1. Set items per box: Enter the box quantity, such as 24 units.
  2. Tap per item: Tap as each item goes into the box.
  3. Close the box: At the target, the counter alerts, closes the box and starts a new one at 0.
  4. Read the order total: See boxes done, items in the open box and total items packed.

Packing Counter Formula

The Packing Counter total items equals full boxes multiplied by items per box, plus items in the open box. Boxes needed equals order quantity divided by box size, rounded up.

Total = Boxes × Per box + Open box | Boxes needed = ceil(Order ÷ Per box)

Example: An order of 500 units at 24 per box needs ceil(500 ÷ 24) = 21 boxes: 20 full boxes and 1 box of 20 units.

About the Packing Counter

A Packing Counter is a 2-level tally for counting items into boxes and boxes into orders. The alert at the box target prevents underfilled and overfilled boxes.

Short boxes cause customer claims, while overfilled boxes give away product. Counting each item and closing each box at the target keeps every box at the right quantity.

  • Farm produce: Growers count fruit into punnets and crates.
  • Craft sellers: Makers pack items for wholesale orders.
