How the Touch Stopwatch Counter Works

The Touch Stopwatch Counter runs a stopwatch and a tally side by side, so every count is tied to the elapsed time. The stopwatch starts on the first tap and keeps running until you press Stop.

  1. Tap to start: The first tap starts the stopwatch at 00:00.00 and counts as 1.
  2. Keep counting: Each tap adds 1. The stopwatch keeps running in hundredths of a second.
  3. Pause when needed: Press Pause to freeze time. Taps during a pause do not count.
  4. Stop and review: Press Stop to see total taps, elapsed time and the average rate.

Touch Stopwatch Counter Formula

The Touch Stopwatch Counter average rate equals total count divided by elapsed time. Elapsed time equals stop time minus start time minus paused time.

Elapsed = Stop − Start − Paused | Rate = Count ÷ Elapsed
Start, Stop
Timestamps of the first tap and the stop press
Paused
Total time spent paused
Count
Taps recorded

Example: A session runs from 0 s to 300 s with 60 s paused. Elapsed = 240 s (4 min). A count of 96 gives 96 ÷ 240 = 0.4 per second, or 24 per minute.

About the Touch Stopwatch Counter

A Touch Stopwatch Counter is a combined timer and tally that records how many events happen over a measured period. The tool replaces a separate stopwatch and clicker.

Time-stamped counts give rates, not just totals. A traffic survey of 120 cars means little alone, while 120 cars in 15 minutes equals 480 cars per hour.

Ways to Use the Touch Stopwatch Counter

The Touch Stopwatch Counter has 5 key uses, including traffic surveys and lap timing.

  • Traffic surveys: Count vehicles and record the exact survey length.
  • Lap timing: Count laps while the stopwatch tracks total run time.
  • Customer flow: Count shop visitors over a measured period.
  • Breathing exercises: Count breaths over 1 minute to get breaths per minute.
  • Lab observations: Count events such as cell divisions over a timed observation.
