How the Touches per Second Calculator Works

The Touches per Second Calculator divides the number of touches by the time they took, in seconds, and shows the live result as touches per second (TPS). The live value uses a rolling 1-second window that refreshes 5 times per second.

  1. Start tapping: Tap the surface at your normal or fastest pace.
  2. Watch the live TPS: The live value counts taps in the last 1,000 ms.
  3. Read the average TPS: The average divides all taps by the total active time.
  4. Check your peak: The peak TPS shows the highest 1-second value reached.

Touches per Second Calculator Formula

The Touches per Second Calculator result equals touches divided by elapsed seconds. The live rate counts touches whose timestamps fall within the last 1 second.

TPS = Touches ÷ Seconds | Live TPS = count(t ≥ now − 1,000 ms)
Touches
Number of touch events
Seconds
Elapsed time in seconds
t
Timestamp of each touch in milliseconds

Example: A user makes 45 touches in 6.0 seconds. TPS = 45 ÷ 6 = 7.5 touches per second.

Touches per Second Calculator Reference Table

The Touches per Second Calculator conversion table converts TPS into touches per minute and the average gap between touches.

About the Touches per Second Calculator

Touches per second (TPS) is a speed measure equal to the number of screen touches made in 1 second. On a mouse, the same measure is called clicks per second (CPS).

Average adult tapping speed with one finger is 5 to 7 TPS. Speeds above 10 TPS usually involve 2 fingers alternating or a vibration technique.

Ways to Use the Touches per Second Calculator

There are 5 main uses of the Touches per Second Calculator, including gaming speed checks and touchscreen benchmarks.

  • Gaming speed checks: Players measure how fast they tap in clicker and rhythm games.
  • Touchscreen benchmarks: Testers check whether a screen registers 10 or more TPS without dropping taps.
  • Motor assessments: Clinicians track tapping speed across visits.
  • Training progress: Players compare peak TPS week to week.
  • App input testing: Developers check whether buttons handle fast repeated input.
